1. Speed Mentoring Session for Early Researchers (Wednesday July 13 2022)
Finding a good research mentor could be a valuable capital for students. We acknowledge that the early career landscape comes with its own set of very unique challenges, and that the journey could at times feel isolating and stressful. Being able to talk to someone who has already walked that journey could be invaluable. The 16th Post Graduate Forum on Health System & Policy will be running a mentee–mentor “speed-dating” session during its pre-conference events. The session will entail a relaxed, semi-structured opportunity for mentors and mentees to meet one another and make useful connections. If you are an early career researcher or a student looking for a mentor from broadly similar disciplines, this session is for you!

Conducting CEA Studies using TreeAge Software
Cost effectiveness analysis (CEA) is a tool that uses an explicit, quantitative health economic analysis to analyze health care costs and outcomes of one or more interventions. It compares several interventions by estimating how much it costs to gain a unit of a health outcome of interest. The output of the CEA is usually presented as an Incremental Cost Effectiveness Ratio (ICER). One of the approaches to conduct the CEA is through decision tree analysis. Decision tree analysis or decision tree modelling extrapolates the cost and effectiveness of competing interventions over time.
This course will provide an introduction to the principles of decision tree analysis in CEA. The analysis will be conducted by using the TreeAge software. Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to construct simple decision trees in the software, understand the basic mechanics of tree evaluation and acquire skill in the interpretation of a decision analysis. The participants will have hands-on experience in constructing and analyzing a decision analysis tree using the software and engage in model-building exercises with examples given by the trainer.
